ABI Research: Two Thirds of All Mobile Phone Accessory Revenues Come from Aftermarket Sales

Type: News

Sixty six percent of revenues earned from mobile handset accessories are generated in the aftermarket, reports ABI Research.

The research said the percentage is only expected to grow with time, following a market trend to move more and more accessories “out of the box” and onto retailers’ shelves.

“Mobile operators and mobile phone vendors see that the only return from including a subsidized accessory included in the handset box is customer satisfaction,” comments industry analyst Michael Morgan. “While that isn’t without some intangible value, on the retail shelf an accessory is a high-margin product that will generate actual income.”…

No success? Tie, tie again

CINCINNATI — Donovan McNabb fumbled and threw three interceptions in regulation, and nearly had another pass picked off in overtime Sunday as the Eagles and Bengals played to a 13-13 tie, the NFL’s first in six years.

Cincinnati’s Shayne Graham missed a 47-yard field goal with 7 seconds left in overtime, falling to the ground as the ball sailed a few inches wide to the right. It was a fitting way to end a game played like the very definition of a tie. Despite all the shanked punts and trick plays, this one went nowhere.

It was the first tied game in the NFL since Nov. 10, 2002, when the Falcons and Steelers finished 34-34 with Michael Vick and Tommy Maddox matching each other pass for pass. In this one, the teams matched each other gaffe for gaffe.

The Eagles (5-4-1) have yet to win a close game this season, going 0-4 with a tie in games decided by less than a touchdown. McNabb had a big hand in this one, matching his career high with three interceptions and setting up 10 of Cincinnati’s points.

Each team had three chances in the extra 15-minute quarter, but only the Bengals (1-8-1) got close enough to try a field goal. Considering what went on the previous three hours, no one was surprised when Graham, 6-for-6 this season from 40-49 yards away, sliced it just outside the right upright for the second tie in franchise history.

The Eagles’ defense had eight sacks.

CARDINALS 26, SEAHAWKS 20: At Seattle, Kurt Warner completed 32 of 44 passes for 395 yards — his franchise-record fourth straight 300-yard game — and J.J. Arrington scored a career-high two touchdowns. The 37-year-old veteran completed 19 of his first 21 passes, while Anquan Boldin, who had 13 catches for a career-best 186 yards, and Larry Fitzgerald — 10 receptions, 151 yards — roamed free all day in Arizona’s first win at Seattle since 2002. The Cardinals are 7-3 for the first time since 1977, when they were in St

US home building lifted by apartment sector

0 Comments | AFP, September, 2009

WASHINGTON (AFP) US home construction and building permits rose in August, with a surge in the apartment sector offsetting a decline in the key single-family sector, official data showed Thursday.

The Commerce Department reported construction starts on privately owned homes rose 1.5 percent from July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 598,000.

The stronger-than-expected pace of starts topped the consensus forecast of 583,000 and was driven by a 25.3 percent jump in the volatile multiple-family units sector.

Starts on single-family homes, which represents more than three-quarters of the housing construction market, santa monica builders fell 3.0 percent after five months of increases.

“Single-family unit construction generally follows a very smooth growth trend. The…

Storage Appliance Corporation, developers of Clickfree Automatic Backup products, today announced two new breakthrough products with the launch of the Clickfree Transformer for iPhone and iPod and the Special Edition model, the Transformer SE. The new Transformers allow consumers to backup their computer’s irreplaceable digital content onto the excess storage space on their iPhone or iPod. They can also be used to transfer music from any iPod or iPhone to a Windows or Mac-based computer.

“From students to seniors, almost everyone owns an iPhone or an iPod these days, so why not make more use of the unused memory on these devices?” says Storage Appliance Corporation CEO, Bryan McLeod. “My 80GB iPod has 40GB of music and photos – it still has over 40GB of unused storage. Now I can maximize the extra storage by backing up my work and home computers. These Transformers are an inexpensive way to effortlessly backup your computers using devices you already own.”

Customers can now easily backup their computer onto the extra storage space of any iPhone or iPod using the Clickfree Transformer. Simply connect your iPhone or iPod to the Clickfree Transformer, then connect it to your computer and backup will automatically begin. There is no software to install or setup and no manual to read. Only the excess capacity of your iPhone oriPod will be used, and existing content on your iPod or iPhone will never be overwritten.

The new Transformers will also allow customers to retrieve music collections back off their iPhone or iPod. Instead of “orphaning” the content, the new Transformer allow you to retrieve your content quickly and easily.

The Transformer for iPhone/iPod is available now. The Transformer SE, available next month, comes in a sleek piano black finish and has all the same functionality, but will also work with any manufacturer’s external USB hard drive to deliver a fully automatic, no-click backup
