NAR Commends Congressional Action to Extend Higher Mortgage Loan Limits

The National real estate for sale by owner Association of Realtors
thanked Congress for speedy action in passing a congressional resolution
yesterday that would extend the current higher Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and
FHA loan limits through 2010. The present loan limits would expire at the
end of 2009 and revert to previous lower limits.
“NAR commends both houses of Congress for their quick action in continuing
these higher limits during a time for recovery in the housing market and
national economy. The higher limits, along with the home buyer tax credit
extension, are necessary to keep the markets moving at this critical time,”
said NAR President Charles McMillan, a broker with Coldwell Banker
Residential Brokerage in Dallas-Fort Worth.
“Home sales have shown significant movement upwards in the past six months
and reduced inventory in some segments of the housing market, but not in
all. Home purchases in the middle-income and higher brackets have not
moved much, and those markets must improve before we can experience a fully
sustained housing recovery. These higher loan limits will help motivate
qualified home buyers to purchase in those markets,” McMillan said.
The resolution would extend the present conventional loan limits for Fannie
and Freddie through the 2010 calendar year at 125 percent of local median
home sales prices, up to a maximum of $729,750 in high-cost areas. The
floor for FHA is $271,050; the floor for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
conforming loan limits is $417,000.
The resolution now goes to President Obama, and he is expected to sign it
today or Saturday to avoid a government shutdown.

An Iranian official says Russia had started delivering an advanced air-defense system to Iran, despite earlier denials by Russia that a deal had been reached. The official, Esmail Kosari, the deputy head of Parliament’s Commission for Foreign Affairs and National Security, was quoted by IRNA as saying, “After a few years of talks with Russia, now the S-300 system is being delivered”.
The S-300, called id badge holder the SA-20 in the West, is a surface-to-air missile system that can track aircraft and fire at them from more than 100 miles away. In September, amid reports that a deal was near, a Russian FM spokesman, Andrei Nesterenko, denied that Russia would sell the missile system to Iran. “We do not intend to supply those types of armaments to countries in the region”, he was quoted as saying in the semiofficial Fars news agency of Iran. Racists force families to flee

A TERRIFYING, eight-year campaign of racist abuse has forced a family to flee their North Edinburgh home.
Another family in the area have also had to move out after similar abuse.
The victims were threatened in the street, had property vandalised and were left scared combination ladders to leave their homes.
Their cases have now sparked moves to improve race relations in the Capital.

Innocent in New York; Marathon for firm’s founder

RICHARD Reed, co-founder of UK-based multi-million pound drinks company Innocent Drinks, will run the ING New York City Marathon.
He flies out tomorrow to take on the challenge – and raise money for The Salvation Army.
The Huddersfield-born Cambridge graduate and entrepreneur, renowned for helping to home schooling resources launch the popular ethical and healthy fresh fruit Innocent Smoothie, will take part in the world-famous 26.2 mile race on Sunday.
Richard was encouraged to run the marathon in aid of The Salvation Army by his parents, David and Bridgette Reed. They live near Salvation Army official Brenda Wood, who as a territorial envoy is spiritual leader of the army’s church at Gawthorpe.
Doubt was cast on whether Richard would take part in the marathon at all after suffering a knee injury in training, but he has since confirmed that this setback will not stop him flying the flag for Innocent Smoothies and The Salvation Army.
He said: “I have run marathons before, but I have never really run one in aid of a charity as such.
“At Innocent Drinks we have the Innocent Foundation, which is a UK-based charity which gives grants to non governmental organisations and other charities, with the idea of bringing nature and communities closer together for mutual benefit.
“When my parents highlighted the good work of The Salvation Army in helping thousands of homeless and needy people in the UK, as well as the less fortunate in countries around the world, I couldn’t refuse their suggestion of running for such a good cause.”
Richard, together with co-founders Adam Balon and Jon Wright, started Innocent Smoothies in 1999 with just three different recipes.
In 2009 the company has 275 employees and 30 different recipes on sale in over 10,000 retailers worldwide.
